Crep Capsule: Best Sneakers of 2010

Sneakerheads we’re back for another instalment of Crep Capsule and this time we’re delving into the archives of 2010.

Crep Capsule: Best Sneakers of 2010

For many reasons, 2010 may hold some memorabilia for you. Whether it was Nike’s rebirthing of the cross-training silhouette craze, or the Jordan Brand unveiling their exhaustive list of retros ( including the renowned  ‘Cool Greys’ and the ‘Infrared’ 6s). While in the Herzogenaurach pond, adidas was cultivating up some extravagant grails with Jeremy Scott which spawned across all our sneaker shelves and to this day, will continue to be cherished in the rotations of many.

Now, we could go on all day on how momentous this year was for the then tight-knit sneaker community or we could just dive into some of our favourite sneakers of this era. Gather round sneaker purists as this one is for you.

Patta x Parra x Nike Air Max 1 'Cherrywood'

Release Date: March 2010

Crep recommendations: Crep Protect Eraser & Crep Protect Spray

Forming as part of Patta’s lauded fifth-anniversary pack, the Parra x Patta Nike Air Max 1 ‘Cherrywood’ ushered into the scene a year after its celebratory milestone, and let’s say this one was a fan favourite from the jump.

Concluding its year of gravitas, this Nike and Parra-led collaboration turned heads in a velvety red suede construction, interspersed with airy inserts of mesh embellishing toe box, heel and sides. Pops of blue sashay through the lace system, while a soft looped Patta branded tongue tag reinstates brand history. As with any conventional Air Max 1, Air cushioning is stacked in the midsole, delivering cloud-like retention with each step.

2. Air Jordan 3 ‘Doernbecher’

Air Jordan 3 ‘Doernbecher’, designed by Cole Johanson

Release Date: December 2010

Crep recommendations: Crep Protect Spray

The Air Jordan 3 ‘Doernbecher’ is an iconic and unforgettable collaboration, born from the partnership with the OHSU Doernbecher Freestyle Program. This edition showcases the creativity of 11-year-old Cole Johanson. The shoe's striking tonal red base is designed to catch the eye, featuring intricate details that make it stand out. Cole's name is prominently displayed, spelt out between the diamond-gridded overlays, adding a personal touch.

Each element of the shoe is crafted to honor the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, celebrating the creativity and resilience of its young patients. This collaboration not only highlights exceptional design but also tells a powerful story of hope and inspiration, making it a cherished piece among sneaker enthusiasts and collectors alike.

3. Nike Kobe Zoom 6 ‘Grinch’

Nike Kobe Zoom 6 ‘Grinch’

Release Date: December 2010

Crep recommendations: Crep Protect Cure Travel Kit & Crep Protect Spray

December 2010 signalled another signature basketball release, but one that truly captured the festive spirit and the hardwood floors was the Nike Zoom Kobe 6 ‘Grinch’. Landing on the feet of the late Kobe himself, this sneaker was destined for success and nothing screams Christmas charm more than a ‘Grinch’ inspired colourway.

Marrying accents of green and red enshrine the upper on this one, nodding to the renowned Dr Seuss character. Bryant’s mamba mentality is championed through the scaled texture, tying back to Kobe’s explosive performance on the courts. Black swooshes emblazon the sidewalls, while Zoom-induced midsoles provide a cushioned and responsive feel with every movement.

4. Nike Dunk High ‘Skunk Dunk’

Throughout its 38-year tenure, the Nike Dunk has seen many elusive renditions, but the Nike Dunk High ‘Skunk Dunk’ is a true standout. Inspired by a less conventional holiday, this quirky release features a furry green and purple suede upper, mimicking its namesake.

A stash pocket in the tongue and aromatic insoles add to the playful theme. Released on 4/20, it’s a nod to the date celebrated by cannabis enthusiasts. With its unique design and cheeky references, the 'Skunk Dunk' quickly became a cult favorite among sneakerheads and collectors.

5. Nike LeBron 8  ‘South Beach’

Crep recommendations: Crep Protect FoamX and Crep Protect Starter Pack

Harking back to LeBron James’ vibrant Miami era, the Nike LeBron 8 ‘South Beach’ made waves with its striking colour palette when it first hit the shelves in 2010. Drenched in vibrant green, the upper combines leather and Flywire-infused TPU panels, creating a sleek yet durable look.

Bold black accents on the eyestay, tongue, Swoosh, and midsole add a sharp contrast, while vibrant Pink Flash details on the tongue, eyelets, and LeBron’s signature on the heel inject a burst of energy. The Max Air 360 unit, paired with a translucent rubber outsole, ensured top-notch performance.
